Monkey Island – Video Game Adaptation.

Original Post

You know what I would absolutely love to see a movie or adaptation of? Monkey Island!

If you haven’t played them or heard of them, then you’re totally missing out. They’re adventure games released by LusasFilm Games (now known as LucasArts) from the 1990s until 2011. Though I personally only recognise them as a trilogy as the fourth game was such a huge letdown & the fifth instalment was released by TellTale.

It tells the story of Guybrush Threepwood who, in the first game (Secret of Monkey Island) is on a quest to become a mighty pirate! (Nerdy fact: Guybrush got his name during the design process for the character. The program used in the designing saved the files in the .brush file format. He was given a working title of “Guy”. Guy.brush. Guybrush!)

During his quest, he meets and falls in love with Elaine Marley. Elaine is besotted over by a vile pirate called LeChuck.

Elaine tells him to drop dead.So he does, returning as the Ghost Pirate LeChuck in the first outing of the series. In the second game, he returns as the Zombie Pirate LeChuck, and in the third game as the Demon Pirate LeChuck.

So he does.

He then returns as the Ghost Pirate LeChuck in the first outing of the series.

In the second game, he returns as the Zombie Pirate LeChuck, and in the third game as the Demon Pirate LeChuck.

It would make for an absolutely fantastic TV series, spanning at least 3 seasons, charting Guybrush’s rise to Pirate Stardom and LeChuck’s multiple forms would be perfect for each one.

These are among the funniest games ever made. You can find HD remakes of all of them, I believe, so you should definitely track down the first three games.
